Exeter and Saracens maintained their 100% record at the start of the Gallagher Premiership Rugby season with a pair of wins this weekend.
Five tries saw Exeter home against Sale with a 35-18 win while Saracens relied on a big second half to beat Northampton.
With the score tied at 10-10 at the start of the second period, Saracens moved out to a 20-10 lead before England international Billy Vunipola was sin binned for collapsing a maul. Northampton took advantage and were able to edge ahead thanks to the boot of Dan Biggar but two tries in three minutes secured the win for Saracens.
Elsewhere, Bath and Newcastle were able to claim their first wins of the year.
Bath took a bonus-point victory over Harlequins 37-32 thanks to a brace from both Zach Mercer and Joe Cokanasiga.
Newcastle needed a last gasp Toby Flood penalty to secure win over Worcester, who remain winless. Flood, who kicked three penalties on the day alongside a pair of conversations, secured victory for the Falcons 23-20.
In perhaps the game of the weekend, Wasps were able to hang on against Leicester Tigers 41-35. Leicester were reduced to 14-men when Will Spencer was sent for an early bath for a dangerous tackle.
The eight-try game was put out of reach thanks to a pair of scores from Juan de Jongh and the boot of Lima Sopoaga – who scored four penalties.
Bristol’s wait for a win against Gloucester continues as the West Country rivals played out an entertaining Friday night game. It has been a decade since Bristol last tasted victory in the match-up but the result never seemed in doubt with Gloucester taking the game 35-13.
