Gallagher Premiership Rugby: Rare draw headlines second week of action

Gallagher Premiership Rugby saw a rare draw in the second week of competition as Gloucester and Bath played out an entertaining 31-31 stalemate.

The game saw England fly-half Danny Cipriani star once again, after a strong performance in his first game for Gloucester last week. Bath fought back from a 21-0 deficit to lead 31-24 but Gloucester clawed their way back into the game with a Matt Banahan try and a Billy Twelvetrees conversion, after 80 minutes, salvaging the draw.

Elsewhere, Exeter and Saracens added bonus point victories to their tally as both sit atop the table. Exeter beat Wasps 42-31 with nine tries in the game whilst Saracens overcame Bristol 44-23, thanks to a 25-minute hat-trick from Liam Williams.

Leicester were able to beat Newcastle Falcons 49-33 after sacking there manager following the first game of the season.

Ex-Ireland international Geordan Murphy took charge of the Tigers on an interim basis following the dismissal of Matt O’Connor last week.

Sale and Northampton both recorded their first victories of the season in the two remaining games.

Sale held on for a nervous 21-15 win over Worcester following a second half fightback from the losing side. Worcester haven’t won away at Sale in more than a decade and their wait continues even after fighting back from an 18-0 half-time deficit.

Northampton needed 17 points from Welsh fly-half Dan Biggar to see off Harlequins 25-18. England captain Dylan Hartley also got in on the point scoring with his first Gallagher Premiership Rugby try since December.
